Primary Care Counselling Service

King Street and Bobblestock Surgery offer an in-house counselling service, run by our counsellor: Mrs. Clare Semere BSc. MA. PGDip. MBACP (Accred). After referral by your GP you will have an initial meeting with the counsellor and the kind of therapy on offer will be discussed. Treatment alternatives include Counselling, Bibliotherapy and Psychoeducational courses. When your GP makes a referral they will give you an "opt-in" form which must be completed and returned to Bobblestock Surgery. We will assume you do not wish to attend the appointment if we do not receive the signed form within 2 weeks of the scheduled counselling appointment.

Appointments last approximately 50 minutes and are held on Thursdays at Bobblestock Surgery.

Counselling

Counselling is a process that enables you to talk about the difficulties in your life. It can help you to understand yourself better and encourage you to manage your life in different ways by changing the way you think about things. Short-term counselling of up to 5 weeks, can be provided in the surgery setting. Before you start counselling it is helpful to think about the area that you would like to focus on, or the issues that you would like to talk about.

Bibliotherapy

Bibliotherapy is literally "book therapy". You are lent a booklet which explains the techniques for dealing with aspects of your difficulty. You work through the booklet in your own time and at the end of 4-8 weeks, you will have a follow-up session with the counsellor

Psychoeducational Courses

These are short courses attended with a group of other people all experiencing similar problems where techniques for dealing with aspects of those problems are explained . The courses are run by the Primary Care Counsellors and are a chance to learn new ways of coping, and are not sessions forcing you to open up and discuss your personal problems.

If none of these options are felt to be suitable then the counsellor may suggest one of the other services available in Herefordshire that can help with particular difficulties.
